It's not about right or left, liberal or conservative, Republican, Democrat or Independent. It's about right and wrong. Not in every case, of course; not all arguments are about objective truths. But the current larger political and social discourse is. The debate is not about two equally-valid approachs to social problems because they are not both valid. One guards the rights and acknowledges the faults and failings of individual choice, but errs on the side of freedom. The other seeks an impossible social utopia at the expense of freedom.
The former founded our country, the latter is trying to destroy it. This battle should be fought on the basis of what is objectively and verifiably true. History is a consistent judge, "grinding to powder" those philosophies that ignore the truth. Socialism and communism have been responsible for the worst human atrocities in history. They have failed to safeguard basic human rights and whenever the people are given a chance to vote, they have failed at the ballot box.
One is based on lies, the other on truth. Only the truth will set you free.
